Things seem to be going from bad to worse for Retribution leader Mustafa Ali. He’s not only the front man for a group WWE seems to have no desire to push or tell a consistent storyline for, but the moment he tries to use the small window he has to speak his mind, it appears the company has threatened to take away his right to talk and cut a promo.
After WWE’s Raw Legends Night this past Monday, Ali — who didn’t appear on the three-hour broadcast — was a guest on Raw Talk. He didn’t have a lot of time, but the time he did have, he used. Ali cut an incredible promo talking about how Legends Night represented everything that was wrong with WWE. The three-hour show left out so many young and talented stars and instead decided to focus in on “has-beens” who can barely walk, let alone usher WWE into a new era.
While the promo was some of Ali’s best work to date, he’s taken to social media to suggest WWE was not a fan of his using the platform to trash the show. More specifically, he took to Twitter on Friday and noted that WWE has threatened to take away his ability to cut a promo live on the show.
He tweeted, “we don’t know if we can give you a live mic again”.
This might be him in character and it may be legit. There’s been no comment from WWE and it’s not clear if he’ll be handed down any punishment, although we don’t believe that will be the case.
Is WWE Handcuffing Ali Too Much?
If this is a legit issue for Ali in WWE, the Retribution group is in real trouble. This Raw Talk promo was one of the few things to gain the group any steam of late and if WWE isn’t happy he cut it and they’re actually threatening to take away the leader’s ability to have a mic as part of their flagship show, it’s not likely this group will last much longer.
Either, the team will fade away, or they won’t be allowed to say anything to get the fans behind the group.
