Following The Riot Squad being broken up on WWE Television with Liv Morgan being moved to SmackDown Live as a part of the Superstar Shake Up, there’s been a noticeable absence of Ruby Riott on WWE television. This could have been explained Thursday when Riott posted a photo on Instagram of her arm in a sling following surgery with the caption “One down, one to go.”
WWE would confirm the surgery and provide more details through their official website. In a brief news release, WWE would state that Riott underwent surgery Wednesday to repair a bilateral injury to her right shoulder. She’ll undergo the same surgery on her left shoulder at a later date.
When in the ring as of late, Riott has looked slower and potentially more hobbled. While this was previously unexplained, it would now appear that Riott was dealing with some fairly significant ailments that were hampering her ability to fully perform. That would make sense given the timeline and considering how talented Riott is in the ring when fully healthy.
How Will Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan Be Used?
While the timeline for her recovery is unclear as of yet, it will be interesting to see how WWE uses both Morgan and Sara Logan in the meantime as they are on separate brands. With a weak women’s tag team division that includes less than five teams, it’s curious that WWE wouldn’t just keep Logan and Morgan together.
If WWE has plans to push either of the two in a single’s run, it would make sense to act on this now with Riott’s injury likely keeping her out for a few months. If there are no active plans for such a singles push, though, then this is yet another confusing decision by WWE’s creative team who seem to be making these decisions on the fly.
