Announcing news that the WWE Universe feared, Jeff Hardy has suffered a serious injury that will require surgery that will keep him out of action for a very long time. Because of this, The Hardyz announced Tuesday night on SmackDown Live that they would be vacating the SmackDown Live Tag Team Championships immediately.
This comes just a few weeks after The Hardyz won the Championships from The Usos and unfortunately came before they could even defend the titles one time. According to Jeff, though, this injury won’t be signaling the end for him or for Matt Hardy and when he comes back better than ever, he’ll be looking to climb right back to the top.
While this was an unfortunate moment for The Hardyz and wrestling fans alike, WWE did a great job at continuing their build-up of Lars Sullivan with the big man coming in and creating major heel heat as he looked to attack both Matt and the injured Jeff.
While Matt would ultimately intervene early on, Jeff was left helpless in the ring with a crutch in hand. Hardy prepared to defend himself with the crutch before R-Truth, The Hardyz long-time friend, would come in and attack Sullivan similarly to the way he did a week ago.
Truth would hit Sullivan with a steel chair which did nothing but enrage the monster. When Truth would swing at Sullivan again, he’d simply punch it out of Truth’s hands and slam Truth once again. This was good continuity from a week ago and gave Sullivan a great chance of generating heat as mentioned with Jeff clearly hobbled and limping on his crutch being the perfect target.
Fortunately, Sullivan wouldn’t ever get to actually attack Hardy which was expected given the fact that he is legitimately hurt.
