As per a report by Sky Sports WWE, Goldberg will make a surprise return to WWE as part of the company’s upcoming event in Saudi Arabia (Jeddah) next month. WWE.com confirmed a similar report.
The Saudi General Sports Authority, in partnership with WWE, will host an event at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Friday, June 7, at 8 p.m. AST. The event will feature WWE Superstars Roman Reigns, Undertaker, Kofi Kingston, Braun Strowman, Seth Rollins, Goldberg, AJ Styles and Brock Lesnar, and stream live on WWE Network.
Details of his role and specifics on his opponent have not been named but it’s clear WWE is using the many resources they get from going to Saudi Arabia to bring Goldberg out of retirement and be part of this show. They get paid a lot and he likes to get paid to appear.
This will be a star-studded show as Brock Lesnar, The Undertaker, and likely other names from the past will be in attendance as well.
What About the Saudi Controversy?
There are still mixed emotions from the roster on being part of these Saudi shows and the fans really aren’t in love with them from the feedback that’s been provided from the two events WWE performed in Saudi Arabia last year. Both the Greatest Royal Rumble and Crown Jewel were critical flops and WWE received major mainstream criticism for going. But, money speaks loudly as they are receiving millions upon millions of dollars per show to hold their events there.
As for Goldberg, the last time fans saw him in the ring, he announced his retirement from active competition on Raw after losing the Universal title to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 33. At that time, he did say “Never say never” and that, in fact, has proven itself to be true.
