Alexa Bliss recently spoke with TV Insider about her experience in Saudi Arabia, working with new characters on television like Nikki Cross, traveling the world, getting back into the Women’s Title picture and more.
Here are some of the big-hitters from that interview.
On Traveling to Saudi Arabia With WWE Alongside Natalya
“I didn’t really know what to expect in Saudi Arabia,” said Bliss. “I knew it wasn’t going to be like Abu Dhabi. It’s very interesting to see how everything is over there. We had fun. When Nattie and I got to interact with kids in the hospital, they knew who we were. They know the product. The show itself was awesome. It was actually a really good experience.
Every woman Natalya and I spoke to were super welcoming and asking us how we liked Jeddah. They said whatever they could do to make our stay better to let them know. Women there were just so excited to meet us. We had so many come up to us thanking us for coming and how they really hope to see a match. I think it’s definitely within reach. Everyone seems to be on board with us having [a] match there.”
Bliss, of course, wrestled in a match against Sasha Banks in Abu Dhabi back in 2017 in a historic match that took place at a Live Event at Zayed Sports City Tennis Stadium. This was the first time that women ever competed in Abu Dhabi.
On Working With New Characters, Specifically Nikki Cross
“I love working with characters who are new and haven’t been in the title picture,” Bliss said. “We are just having fun with it. That’s the best part of it. Everything we are doing, interacting, is just us. I think us having reads nice on camera with our natural chemistry.
We’ve been traveling together. It’s always fun when you get along with the person you work with. That can help. We haven’t seen her too much on WWE TV, so if this helps build her character while having fun at the same time, it’s a good situation to be in.”
Seeing Cross take this step forward on the main roster has been refreshing given how talented she is and how successful she was during her time in NXT. While her running mates in SAnitY were called up to the main roster, she remained in NXT and WWE was biding their time with eventually bringing her into the mix. Fast forward a few years and SAnitY is no longer a faction on WWE television and Cross is being pushed to the forefront of the product.
Bliss is the perfect complement to her given how talented she is on the mic and how capable she is at getting a reaction from the crowd.
On SmackDown Women’s Championship Match & Bayley
“I’m happy to see the different kind of Bayley,” Bliss said. “I feel like for a while we lost Bayley a little bit in the Boss ‘n’ Hug Connection just because Sasha’s personality is so big. I feel like sometimes you need to hear from Bayley a little bit more.
The fact that she is able to show this more aggressive side just helps the character so much more and the people as well. It’s just a lot of fun to be a character and see it change over time. The fact she is reinventing herself is awesome.”
Both Bliss and Bayley have proven to be among the most talented wrestlers on the planet during their time in NXT and WWE. While Bliss has found her career sidelined by concussions and other injuries and Bayley’s career was stifled on the main roster early on due to her character failing to translate from NXT to WWE, both are set to face off in a big match at WWE Stomping Grounds.
