According to a news release from WWE.com, Alexa Bliss is not medically cleared to compete at WWE Money in the Bank and as such, has been removed from the Women’s Money in the Bank match. The release would also mention that a suitable replacement would be announced.
PWInsider reported that Bliss is out of action due to a concussion. This was an expected outcome given the fact that Bliss was replaced by Nikki Cross in a Fatal Four Way on Raw this past Monday, leading many to question Bliss’ status for Sunday’s pay-per-view.
This is still an unfortunate turn of events for Bliss as she has suffered several concussions during her time with WWE. Her last match in the ring came on April 29 in a losing effort to Naomi on Raw.
Hopefully, she can recover from this injury and not be rushed back into action given the severity of one concussion, let alone multiple in such a short period of time. Brain injuries are never something that should be messed with and WWE should handle this accordingly.
Could Cross Replace Bliss in Money in the Bank Match?
As it stands, the Women’s Money in the Bank match is set to feature Bayley, Carmella, Dana Brooke, Ember Moon, Mandy Rose, Natalya and Naomi. Cross feels like the most likely replacement option for Bliss in the match similarly to how she replaced her on Raw. This would certainly be welcomed by the WWE Universe due to Cross’ popularity.
Cross made a name for herself in NXT alongside SAnitY and then as a singles competitor when her stablemates were called up to the main roster. She’s also become a legitimate fan favorite due to her excellent character work and ability inside the ring.
It’s hard to imagine WWE using anybody else in this scenario.
