Sorry wrestling fans. If you’re one of the many who watched SmackDown Live last night and went public with your hatred for another tag team name this isn’t sitting well, you’re probably blaming the wrong person.
Kairi Sane and Asuka came out for a match on Tuesday night and before wrestling, Paige titled them the Kabuki Warriors.
Fans immediately flooded the social media post with comments about how they hated the name and likened it to the Viking Experience, (now the Viking Raiders) who were at one time, the War Raiders in NXT.
When The Viking Experience debuted on Raw, fans got so angry, their voices forced WWE to make a change. Perhaps, some of these same fans were hoping Kabuki Warriors would be changed to something else as well.
The team’s manager Paige updated fans and don’t expect a change.
Paige wrote on social media, “You know it was the girls who chose their name right? Well technically they wanted Kabuki Girls” but it was changed to Kabuki Warriors. Chill.”
Later, Asuka posted the meaning of kabukimono on her social media account which defined the term as, “Sengoku or Edo-period eccentric who attracted public attention with their eye-catching clothes, peculiar hairstyle, and weird behavior.”
When you think about it, that actually fits both women.
What Can Fans Expect Now?
During an exclusive WWE.com video, Paige said the team will be taking over and will be the next WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. Paige reiterated during the video the team wanted to be known as Kabuki Girls but that “Warriors” sounded more fierce.
Chances are, they’ll be the new No. 1 contenders for the Women’s Tag Team Championships and might give the current champs, The Iiconics, a run for their money.
