The Rock Producing Backyard Wrestling Series for HBO
Variety reported this afternoon that The Rock is one of three producers working on the creation of a series about backyard wrestling for HBO. The new 30-minute hip hop-themed backyard wrestling series will be called TRE CNT (a.k.a “TRE COUNT”), and comes from writer Mohamad El Masri.
As per the article:
The series focuses on the story of “Cassius Jones, a young dockworker and struggling pro-wrestler, who uses inherited life-insurance money for start-up cash and the deed to a shotgun house from his grandfather to start a hip-hop centric backyard wrestling empire in Houston’s Third Ward with the help of his working-class family, neighbors, and friends.”
The show will fall under the umbrella of the many productions Johnson has done under his Seven Bucks Productions company.
This is not the first time he’s worked with HBO, having finished his series called Ballers and his other television show Titan Games — a reality competition series — will be returning for a second season on NBC with Johnson hosting. Of course, there’s also NBC’s order of the comedy series Young Rock which covers the life of Johnson as he was getting his feet wet in the wrestling business and he will appear in all 11 episodes of the first season.
And, just the other day, he said he would not rule out a return to WWE if the situation were right and potentially for a match with Roman Reigns.
