Seth Rollins Take Shot at Will Ospreay

If you watch wrestling outside the world of WWE and now AEW, you’ve probably heard of Will Ospreay. Opsreay is known for his high-flying, high-risk style of wrestling, being nicknamed “The Aerial Assassin” and he’s making a name for himself in New Japan Pro Wrestling and other indie promotions all around the world.

He also thinks of himself as the best wrestler on the planet. That’s a problem for one Seth Rollins.

Over the last couple of days, the WWE Universal Champion has been standing up for WWE when it comes to the debate over which wrestling promotion employs the best in-ring performers on the planet. Rollins said of WWE early on in the debate, “Best pro wrestling on the planet. Period.” That take was met with some criticism from the likes of AEW’s Chris Jericho. Jericho sent a laughing emoji in response.

Then WWE Stomping Grounds happened and WWE offered up a number of high-quality matches. Among them was the Cruiserweights who put on a tremendous bout that saw Drew Gulak take the Cruiserweight Championship. Rollins doubled down and said nobody could touch WWE. He wrote:

“Doubling down. Best pro wrestling on the planet. See that Cruiserweight Triple Threat? And thatā€™s just one night, one match amongst the many. Find anyone else alive who does what I do as well as I do it as often as I do it. Ya canā€™t.

Will Ospreay Answered

Independent wrestling star Will Ospreay answered Rollins challenge to find someone better when he said, “I’m alive.” The comment was meant to suggest Ospreay was the best. Rollins didn’t agree.

Ironically, Rollins wasn’t referring to himself as better when he shot back at Ospreay. He was suggesting new U.S. Champion Ricochet was better and at exactly the type of wrestling Ospreay does.

“Ahhhh I’m sorry little guy. We already have a better version of you here and he just won his first US Title tonight. (Congrats @KingRicochet). Keep working hard though buddy!”, Rollins said.

Will this lead to anything? Probably not. That said, WWE would be doing well adding Ospreay to its roster of talent because he is incredible.

For now, all this will do is continue to the debate as to which promotion offers the best wrestling in the world. Some will say it isn’t WWE but what they shouldn’t forget is that no other company asks its wrestlers to be as on top of their game as WWE does, nearly as often.
