As seen above, The Rock has released the second official trailer for his Hobbs & Shaw movie. The film is a spinoff from the Fast & Furious franchise of films and stars Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham as their characters from the original films, only this time without the supporting cast of guys like Vin Diesel and Tyrese Gibson.
This film also stars Idris Elba and features Roman Reigns (Johnson’s real-life cousin) who will make an appearance in the movie as one of his Samoan brothers. As far as we know, it’s the first major blockbuster film Reigns has appeared in.
If you’d seen the first trailer, you were, at that time, introduced to the key characters. This second trailer offers a bit of a better look at the plot. The world is in danger with Elba playing ‘Black Superman’, Brixton Lore, and it’s up to Hobbs and Shaw to save the world, working with Shaw’s sister in the process who happens to have stolen a virus that could wipe out half the world’s population.
It’s a bit of a stretch from the original films where the characters simply tore up the streets of whatever town they were in for their own benefits or to free themselves from the law, but maybe a movie about saving the world will work?
In this over 3 minutes worth of footage, it appears most of the action has been crammed into the trailer but with films like these, the action typically never actually stops, so we’re sure there will be much more than what’s shown.
The film will hit theaters on August 2. Reigns can be seen in the trailer, shortly after the 2:00 mark.
