According to a report by Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet, Roman Reigns is no longer going to take part in WrestleMania 36 and a new opponent for Goldberg will need to be named.
Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated reached out to WWE to confirm the report and he relayed that they declined comment, perhaps suggesting they were hoping to keep the news a secret and not spoil any upcoming episodes of SmackDown that might have relayed the news.
Apparently, Reigns expressed concern to WWE that he no longer felt comfortable performing at the WWE Peformance Center in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. Because Reigns is still fighting his battle with leukemia he is immunocompromised, and as such, at much greater risk. WWE did not want Reigns to be a part of any other tapings if he was uncomfortable and granted his request to be excluded.
WrestleVotes tweeted a photo of Reigns hugging it out with Braun Strowman around the time of the news being shared, suggesting perhaps Strowman has been named as his replacement.
Earlier this week, Dana Brooke and Rey Mysterio were taken off the card and Reigns is the latest to be removed from the show, proving WWE isn’t taking any chances. They’d always contended that the health and safety of their performers and fans were of their highest concern and removing one-half of one of their big main events proves they weren’t willing to take chances despite it drastically throwing a big part of the card for a loop.
