The biggest storyline in WWE might be the Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch relationship. But, it almost wasn’t a storyline at all.
When WWE presented both Rollins and Lynch with the idea of using their off-screen relationship as the basis for an on-screen storyline, neither really jumped at the idea. During an interview with Sports Illustrated Media, Rollins said the two had been dating since February and while they weren’t hiding from the public, were good with everyone assuming they were just friends. Lynch then told everyone they were together and it became something WWE wanted to try and work with.
Rollins wasn’t a fan of the idea at first but he said after working out the kinks and putting his foot down as to the direction they’d be allowed to take things on tv, he and Lynch eventually felt comfortable with having it appear on television.
“When you’re first approached about the idea, you’re kind of like, “How is it going to work? Is it going to work?'” Rollins said. He added, “I’ve never done anything like that before and I don’t think she has either as far as I know. If you look at the way couples have been portrayed in the past, it’s a bit sketchy, especially on the woman’s end.”
Important to Rollins was to show Lynch and Rollins together, but not have Lynch look like a helpless character. Such is one of the reasons Lynch came out and saved Rollins from a Baron Corbin and Lacey Evans attack.
A Long Time Coming
The couple had been together for months prior to the world really knowing about it. And, it took until April to officially tell the world they were together, posting a photo of them kissing.
It seems like both are happy they moved forward and for now, they’re the central angle on Raw each Monday night and headlining Extreme Rules in a tag match.
