Rey Mysterio Wants To Put His Mask On The Line In WWE Match
While he’d gone on a stint in WCW without his mask — a stint that many feel was unsuccessful — Rey Mysterio says he’s not unwilling to put his mask on the line again in a match. In fact, he’s excited about the prospect of doing so.
Speaking with WWE’s The Bump, he talked about the upcoming Money in the Bank match but also talked about his history of Lucha Libre wrestling and some of the influences in his career. Noting that there’s excitement around the mystery of the masks in Mexico, he’d like to share with WWE fans what that excitement is all about.
He said, “If the opportunity came about, I would jump in a heartbeat [on putting his mask on the line again]. He added:
“I think that’s what makes Lucha Libre exciting and in this case to bring Lucha Libre to the WWE, and show the WWE Universe the excitement behind the mask vs. hair match, or the mask vs. title match. You know you put your heart out there in those matches. I would actually love to jump in the ring one of these days before I retire and put my mask on the line against something that is well worth it.”
From what we’ve heard, there isn’t a plan as of yet to write this into the storylines, but it wasn’t long ago that when Mysterio was feuding with Andrade, there were times that Andrade kept ripping off his mask. It appeared, that’s where things were headed. That storyline was dropped when Andrade was suspended for 30 days, then injured before WrestleMania.
If he’s willing, it makes sense that WWE will try to find the right opponent for this match to happen.
