Jericho Says AEW TV Announcement Imminent
There have been rumors that a television deal for AEW is on the horizon if not already in place. One of the main and most-recognized talents in All Elite Wrestling says fans won’t have to wait much longer to hear details about that deal.
Chris Jericho has said that All Elite Wrestling’s Network deal will be announced soon.
The good news for the upstart wrestling promotion is that it sounds like multiple networks are interested in offering up a platform for tv and one of them may have won the day. According to Jericho, the company will begin their weekly television show this fall “on a huge cable company”.
Jericho spilled the beans during an interview with Cheddar, suggesting weekly shows should begin rolling by the end of September. Before then, AEW has a show on May 25th it needs to make a big success.
Speaking about Double or Nothing, Jericho said:
“We sold it out in four minutes, 12,000 tickets. So there’s a lot of buzz about AEW, and in the Fall, we’re gonna be starting our weekly television on a huge cable company that we’re gonna be announcing very soon so, it’s not a competition, it’s just an alternative and it’s something that I think people and wrestling fans are waiting for because it’s been a long time with just the WWE, just one company,” he said (h/t Fightful).
What Does This Mean for AEW?
If AEW does, in fact, have a big tv deal in place, this is huge news for the company. As much as people won’t want to call it a competition, it won’t take long for fans and media to start comparing ratings and other tv measurements to the WWE product with fans choosing sides.
There is a ton of buzz around the company and this could be the biggest competition for WWE since WCW. It has the talent, the money and, now, the platform it needs to be a huge alternative for wrestling fans.
