WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan is taking a fair share of both praise and criticism this week after using his social media platform to make a polarizing statement about the COVID-19 pandemic and the fact that he sees it as a plague sent from God, not a necessarily a virus.
Hogan used his Instagram page to tell his fans and followers that he believes COVID-19 is more akin to a punishment from God than a disease scientists are working to educate themselves about. He then went on to add that maybe the world doesn’t need a vaccine for something that was here to send a message.
He wrote, “Word up, can you handle the truth my brother only love HH.” He added:
In three short months, just like He did with the plagues of Egypt, God has taken away everything we worship. God said, ‘you want to worship athletes, I will shut down the stadiums. You want to worship musicians, I will shut down Civic Centers. You want to worship actors, I will shut down theaters. You want to worship money, I will shut down the economy and collapse the stock market. You don’t want to go to church and worship Me, I will make it where you can’t go to church’
‘If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.’
In what appears to be a message that Hogan is saying God is punishing the earth for doing wrong by him, people need to do right again before the situation will resolve itself. He added,
“Maybe we don’t need a vaccine, Maybe we need to take this time of isolation from the distractions of the world and have a personal revival where we focus on the ONLY thing in the world that really matters. Jesus.”
While some people posted comments of encouragement and thanks, there are a number of people today suggesting this is misdirected thinking. That comes with the territory when you talk about religion and science, mix the two together and have a massive platform, as Hogan does.
