Edge may be among the hottest names in professional wrestling right now. It comes after nine years of being away from the industry and after he was first forced to retire from the business because of neck issues. For a long time, after his career ended and before he was ready to call it quits, he felt sorry for himself, went on to find other things to do and stopped watching wrestling altogether. He had no interest in the industry. That is, until one person brought him back to it.
While speaking to Corey Graves on After The Bell, Edge said it was his best friend Jay (Christian) who got him interested in the business again. When Christian was also forced to retire, he gave Edge the idea to create a show. They started brainstorming and from that idea, The Edge & Christian Show That Totally Reeks Of Awesomeness was born.
If it weren’t for the freedom he and Jay had on the WWE Network, Edge says his love for the business might not have re-ignited.
“I just gravitated away from wrestling. It was Jay, Christian, who kind of brought me back because when he was forced to retire, he said, ‘Hey why don’t we do a show or something?’ It snowballed into The Edge And Christian Show and again, we were given freedom to just write this ridiculousness and to see all of those things come to life and to be back involved with my first love. It reignited my love for this.”
Fast forward and few years and Edge was medically cleared, eager to get back in the ring and signed an incredibly lucrative contract with WWE. Having appeared at the 2020 Royal Rumble and having taken part in a grueling Last Man Standing Match with Randy Orton at WrestleMania 36, he looks as good as new.
The Rated R Superstar says he’s eager to work with a variety of stars and has his eyes set on NXT talent where he knows he can share his experience and guide a number of potential Superstars who have that same passion he does for the business.
