During an interview with the Stadium’s Sauce & Shram show, CM Punk had a lot to say about the wrestling business he apparently no longer wants to be a part of. When asked about WrestleMania 35, he made comments in particular about Kofi Kingston winning the WWE title, women headlining the card and Shane McMahon calling himself the ‘Best in the World’.
When asked about McMahon, Punk said the phraseology WWE is using is probably is a dig at him, but WWE would never admit that. “I think he’s been calling himself the best in the world,” Punk said. About whether or not that’s a shot at him, “… it probably is, but they’d deny it until the cows come home.”
In respect to the main event, Punk said, the best thing to come out of the match was what little girls watching at home would take from it. “Those three women last night, put it all on the line, for everybody’s entertainment. And I think the best thing to come out of all of that is the little girls that can watch that and aspire to be something greater than what we all are.”
Finally, Punk put over Kofi Kingston’s win and while he gave a little credit to WWE for putting the title around his waist, also took a shot by saying, “It should’ve happened ten years ago.”
Punk suggested that it’s sad WWE is so behind the times on things like this and if they really want to grow, they need to be “ahead of the curve instead of behind it.”
None of this really matters, in that, there’s very seldom anything that Punk can say about WWE or WWE about Punk and have it not come off as a statement that has a hidden agenda. There’s clearly still a beef there and if both sides have opportunities to take shots, they probably will.
