It didn’t take long for Chris Jericho to go from being a “WWE guy” to being enemy No. 1 with Vince McMahon. Now officially a part of the All Elite Wrestling roster, Jericho joining AEW has irked Vince to the point Jericho says he essentially banned from WWE right now.
Being the professional that he is, Jericho isn’t really all that surprised. He’s always considered himself on good terms with Vince and before he signed with AEW, he’s stated publicly that he would always talk with Vince before he signed with another North American wrestling promotion. Speculation was that conversation never took place before Jericho jumped to AEw and Vince is pissed about it.
Y2J explained all of this on his Talk Is Jericho podcast where he said WWE has basically “banned him” since he joined the new rival company. He’s not the only former WWE performer over there now, but he might be the most high profile. Jericho explained:
“I’ve talked with him (Vince McMahon) a couple of times but I’m kind of public enemy number 1 there now. I’ve been kind of removed from the annals of history.
I asked the other day if I could have a couple of their guys on my podcast to promote Mania and I was told ‘no, it’s not appropriate because you’re in AEW.’ I am banned from WWE.
“I know that they had to take some videos down from UpUpDownDown of me playing. They edited some stuff from the Edge and Christian Show that had my name on it.”quotes via Ringside News
The interesting thing here is that Vince and co. didn’t really have much for Jericho to do before he decided to go to Japan to wrestle for NJPW and then when he hooked up with the likes of Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks, the road sort of led to AEW. The money being offered by the Khan family was exactly the type of deal Jericho was looking for. While that’s all fair in business and with the competition that comes with two wrestling promotions having money, it hasn’t stopped Vince from being a little bitter.
Needless to say, the days of Jericho coming and going in WWE and showing up for small stints at a time are probably over. At this point, the only way WWE would bring him back is if it hurt AEW.
