Following his match with Triple H at WrestleMania 35, Batista has let the world know that he is officially retiring from sports entertainment, WWE and professional wrestling.
In a tweet Monday morning, he wrote:
@WWE Universe Thank you for letting me entertain you. I love this business whether you cheered for me or jeered me. I’m grateful for being a small part of your life. I am officially retired from sports entertainment and I am grateful for every second of my amazing journey.
He later wrote on his Instagram account:
“To all the @wwe fans across the world that gave me the opportunity to suspend your disbelief, thank you. From the biggest part of my heart thank you for letting me entertain you. Tonight was my story book ending and I wanted to leave you with all I had to give. I’ll miss this theater of violence more than I can express in words but I am officially retiring from Sports Entertainment. I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished, I leave in great health, and without a doubt the show will go on. I had a hell of a run. Thank you for the journey”
Batista didn’t win his match with Triple H at WrestleMania but it’s argued he put on one of the best matches of the night. A No Holds Barred match where everything from steps to chains and pliers were used to tell the story of his grudge with The Game, the two performers went nearly 30 minutes after Batista hadn’t been in the ring since 2014.
There is no word on whether or not Batista will show up on Raw tonight to say goodbye to the fans or if he will leave WWE as a true heel character and just vanish back into the world of Hollywood.
He’s certainly not going to need to keep wrestling. Batista is now a full-fledged movie star with new projects on the go all the time.
