Even as late as last night’s Monday Night Raw, where Shayna Baszler “broke” Sara Logan’s arm with the shoot-style match that saw Baszler move on in the Money in the Bank qualifier, there has been never-ending talk about Ronda Rousey’s recent comments.
Calling WWE “fake fighting” Rousey stirred the pot among fans and WWE Superstars and there are questions about whether or not this is a work or a shoot program that will see Rousey return to WWE as a heel. One of the Superstars upset by Rousey’s comments was Alexa Bliss. She spoke with CBS about why Rousey’s comments bothered her.
Speaking with CBS Sports, Bliss stated it all comes down to Rousey using the word “fake” while speaking about wrestling, namely WWE. Saying that she and Rousey always got along, all of the WWE Superstars respected Rousey’s accomplishments in MMA and many praised her for what she’d been through leading to her introduction into the world of wrestling and her one year in WWE. But, “It was just the use of the word ‘fake.’ Especially because we welcomed Ronda with open arms,” that bothered her.
She added, “We all wanted to see her succeed, and whenever we would have a match, we would respect her UFC background and respect how she did certain things.” That includes rumors that Rousey’s work was cause for a series of injuries Bliss suffered that put her out of action for a while.
Bliss didn’t mention those injuries or blame Rousey, instead she stated that the whole roster wanted to make an amazing story and meshing both styles of WWE and UFC together. She noted it takes two to put on a good match in WWE and said, “you know, you’re only as good as the person you’re in the ring with.”
Bliss didn’t love that her comments were geared towards fans either. She explained:
“When you kind of bash the fans who were always really supportive and say what we do is fake, it’s kind of disrespectful when we were so respectful of what she did coming in and we were respectful of her in WWE.” Everyone was willing to help her succeed, you know? She did a lot for us, but we also did a lot for her.”
Bliss admitted the product is scripted but those who do professional wrestling for a living don’t call it “fake fighting” because a lot of bodies laid on the path she walked on. Many prefer story telling.
Bliss Would Love to Work With Her Again
Bliss said this hasn’t ruined the potential of her coming back or her desire to work with Rousey again. “My whole thing is … if she comes back to WWE? Great. We would all love to work with her again, I’m sure. Just limit the use of the ‘F-word.'”
