On Monday, during the Road to Dynamite video, AEW announced the introduction of a new title, the TNT Championship. Saying there would be a tournament and names would be announced as early as the next day’s episode of AEW Dark, this new title represents AEW’s first real mid-card belt. There are plenty of talents in AEW worthy of consideration.
The way to win it is via an eight-man tournament that will begin next Wednesday, April 8 during AEW Dynamite on TNT. The winner of the single-elimination tournament will receive the TNT Championship belt after the live finals at Double Or Nothing on Saturday, May 23 in Las Vegas.
As names started being announced, it was clear AEW was going with some popular stars that have a storied past. The first set of matches will include Cody Rhodes vs Shawn Spears while Sammy Guevara will be facing Darby Allin. The winner of those bouts will face one another in the semi-finals.
The other half of the bracket will be revealed tomorrow night on AEW Dynamite.
Matches Will Be Shot At Undisclosed Location
As we reported earlier today, AEW has moved all tapings to an undisclosed location for logistical reasons due to keeping fans from the building and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
