Following the loss of their Impact World Tag Team Championships to LAX at IMPACT Rebellion, it would appear that The Lucha Bros could be nearing their end with Impact Wrestling altogether.
According to a report from The Wrestling Observer, The Lucha Bros, consisting of Rey Fenix and Pentagon Jr. could be the exclusive property of AEW in the United States in the near future. This would explain their loss to LAX on Sunday and could lead to various other storylines tied up in the near future. As Dave Meltzer would state, however, this isn’t confirmed.
“None of this is done, but everything I’m kind of hearing is that Fenix and Pentagon are soon going to be exclusive in the United States to AEW.
I know that the deal that AEW and AAA were trying to make with Fenix and Pentagon was to get them under contract where they would only work for AAA in Mexico and they would only work for AEW so that would get them out of The Crash [Lucha Libre] and out of CMLL and it would also mean IMPACT and also MLW.
And I know that MLW was going under the idea that they’re finishing them up so this looked like maybe the same thing. That they’re finishing up [their time with IMPACT].”
The Lucha Bros, as mentioned by Meltzer, would be working exclusively for AEW in the United States and exclusively for AAA in Mexico. This would be a big get for AEW as it wasn’t clear if they were going to be exclusive to the company when they were first announced to be joining.
While this hasn’t be confirmed as of yet, it’s still significant news as one of the most popular tag teams in the business appears to be locked up for the immediate future.
