AEW Introduces New Title, The TNT Championship

Over the past 24-48 hours, AEW’s Cody Rhodes had teased the announcement of a big development for the wrestling company. And, having done something similar in the past and it turned out not to be as big a deal as fans were expecting, he knew enough not to make a similar mistake the next time around.

He announced the latest released of the Road To.. series from AEW would have some news that fans were eagerly clamoring for. He spoke that it wouldn’t be about a video game, but it would be cool.

As the 5pm hour counted down, he kept hinting that something big was coming. Many speculated that it might be a partnership with NJPW or the creation of a secondary AEW title. Not everyone was behind the idea of a midcard title, but others liked the idea of having something for talent working their way up to the main title picture. For guys like Jungle Boy, Kip Sabian, Shawn Spears, Darby Allin, Orange Cassidy, and others, there wasn’t a lot for them to aspire to achieve. etc. would benefit so much from this.

Maybe even a trio title would be perfect for AEW. It seems like every week there’s another group being made, many of which include three members. Feuds between SCU, Dark Order, Jungle Express, members of the elite, MJF with Butcher and the blade etc.

Fans waited until 5pm Eastern Time for the video to drop. When it did, Rhodes wasn’t lying. After trying to hide it from Cody, Tony Shiavone said that AEW will be announcing a brand new champion. The “TNT Champion”.

On AEW Dark, AEW will announce the first half of the bracket to determine who will compete for this championship.
