7 Rumors Heading Into WWE Money in the Bank

Just hours before Money in the Bank tonight, there are some last-minute rumors that will make the show a bit more interesting.

We can’t confirm any of the following will actually happen but this is the buzz surrounding the event from some reputable sources:

Rollins to Retain

According to WrestleVotes, Seth Rollins vs. Brock Lesnar for the Universal Title is planned for the Super ShowDown in Saudi Arabia. That means Rollins will be retaining this title vs. AJ Styles at Money in the Bank.

It wasn’t really a thought to take the title off of Rollins yet anyway but with the match at Saudi Arabia, this make Rollins retaining a virtual lock.

There is some buzz that Brock Lesnar might get involved to set up the match that is expected between Lesnar and Rollins at Super ShowDown.

Big E To Appear

This isn’t a certainty but there was a plan to try and have Big E at Money in the Bank. PW Insider notes there were plans for the injured star to be at Money in the Bank “at one point,” so he could return to television sooner rather than later.

Road Dogg Back on Writing Team

Despite rumors that he might be taking his leave from WWE, Road Dogg confirmed that he has not quit WWE and according to the Observer, his time away was simply because he was feeling a lot of pressure.

It doesn’t look like he’s part of the crew tonight for Money in the Bank but when he does return, he might be working directly with Triple H and possibly more on the NXT product.

Andrade vs. Balor Super Showdown

Because Andrade vs. Finn Balor has been booked for the Intercontinental Title at Super ShowDown, don’t expect either competitor to come away with the briefcase tonight.

It appears WWE has big plans for Andrade and that could include an IC Title run. Typically, if a competitor is planned for something else, the briefcase is not part of the storylines.

It doesn’t appear Andrade will win the title at the Saudi show however as Balor will be appearing as the Demon King. WWE likes to keep that part of Balor’s character strong and a loss to Andrade would only happen if WWE has a huge push in line for the SmackDown Live newcomer.

Baron Corbin is also being pushed towards a match with Rollins and as such, he’s not a favorite to win the briefcase either. Typically, WWE likes to make a cash in surprising and not something a No. 1 contender would have at his disposal.

Men’s Ladder Match to Close

WWE is hoping that by placing the Men’s Money in the Bank match on last, fans might not be so quick to switch the channel to Game of Thrones. As of the last we’d heard, that match is supposed to close the show.

The Women’s match may open the show with one of the Championship title bouts right after it.

Authors of Pain Returning Soon

With no Raw Tag Team Title bout on the card tonight, do not expect any surprises in regard to the red brand’s titles. With the SmackDown Live Tag Titles on the pre-show, the match will likely be a throw-away. That said, there are whispers the Authors of Pain might show up on tomorrow’s Raw or Tuesday’s SmackDown Live.

Original plans had them possibly showing up at Money in the Bank but with the Wild Card rule and Bryan’s injury changing the optics of the SmackDown tag match, that was postponed.

Perfect Storm for Lynch to Drop a Title

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter suggests that Money in the Bank will provide the perfect set-up for Becky to drop one of her Titles. They wrote:

“Lynch working twice on the show seems like a gimmick to feature her, and it allows her to drop a title while having an excuse of being injured in the first of two matches.”

What’s interesting about this is that the winner might not be one of the challengers, but the whoever walks away with the briefcase. If Lynch fights twice, successfully defends twice and then gets cashed in on, she doesn’t look weak as it would be hard for anyone to survive that type of schedule in one night.
