It was a somewhat shocking announcement that came with a mixed reaction from fans. During Monday’s episode of Raw, WWE advertised the return of a popular PPV called King of the Ring. Only, it wasn’t going to be a PPV, but a tournament starting (and possibly finishing) next week on Raw.
WWE Superstars, like Kurt Angle, who had previously won the tournament spoke about what it meant to win.
All of that was great, but who was competing? WWE didn’t name any of the competitors despite talking about the tournament throughout the show. It wasn’t until after Raw went off the air that the details became clearer.
Between a YouTube video that showed all 16 competitors and an official post on WWE.com, fans finally learned who would all be part of the historic tournament.
The official lineup for the tournament listed: Elias, The Miz, Kevin Owens, Chad Gable, Andrade, Shelton Benjamin, Buddy Murphy, Ricochet, Cedric Alexander, Cesaro, Drew McIntyre, Baron Corbin, Sami Zayn, Ali, Apollo Crews, and Samoa Joe.
Who Will Win This Year’s King of the Ring?
Eight competitors from SmackDown Live and eight from Raw will compete in the tournament in an attempt to be crowned new King of the Ring and King of WWE. The early favorites have to be McIntrye and Kevin Owens with Ricochet and Andrade a close second. Who would you pick?
