It would appear that an already packed WrestleMania 35 card is about to get another match added as the Raw Tag Team Champions The Revival are set to defend against the team of Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder. The match, if confirmed, will ultimately be the 16th match on the WrestleMania card, including the pre-show.
This match was hinted at on the go-home episode of Monday Night Raw with Hawkins and Ryder laying down the challenge. There was speculation that this could lead up to a multi-team tag team match as WWE is doing with their SmackDown tag team titles as The Usos are set to defend against Ricochet & Aleister Black, The Bar & Shinsuke Nakamura & Rusev.
Based on a WrestleMania graphic that the Twitter account WrestleVotes has posted, it would appear that this match is indeed set to happen. WrestleVotes has a very good track record of being correct with these things and the graphic is fairly concrete. WWE has since confirmed that this match will indeed take place.
This match could spell the end for another WrestleMania streak as Hawkins is still hasn’t won any of his last 200-plus matches. There have been rumors that WWE is considering splitting up The Revival which would lend to the notion that WWE is looking for a huge pop with Hawkins & Ryder winning similarly to the way the crowd popped when Ryder won the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania a few years ago.
WWE has often misused their tag team division with The Usos being one of the rare exceptions to the rule. It wouldn’t be surprising to see WWE drop the ball with The Revival the way they have with so many other teams over the last few years.
Still, seeing Hawkins and Ryder, two wrestlers who have been grossly misused throughout their tenure in WWE, get rewarded at WrestleMania would be a welcome surprise.
